HMHB Receives Major Support From Dobbs Foundation to Support New Online Resource for Mothers

June bc 13, 2019 - Atlanta, GA - Healthy Mothers, Healthy Babies Coalition of Georgia (HMHB) is thrilled to announce it has received a $75,000 grant from the R. Howard Dobbs, Jr. Foundation.

“Our board was pleased to invest in Healthy Mothers Healthy Babies’ strategy to increase both the quality of and access to prenatal education across the state.” says Danielle Gray, Program Officer at the R. Howard Dobbs, Jr. Foundation. “Not only will the education and referral information improve health outcomes for Georgia’s women and children, it will lay the foundation for those children’s future developmental and educational success.”

These funds will be used to support the design and launch of Pickles & Ice Cream, HMHB’s mom-focused website that will provide quality prenatal education to women in Georgia. Pickles & Ice Cream will also feature prenatal education toolkits to help capacitate obstetric care providers and prenatal educators across the State. The funds from this grant will also help HMHB host provider webinars on the toolkits and conduct research summits on HMHB’s prenatal education findings.

Given Georgia’s poor maternal and infant health outcomes and HMHB’s success in implementing its evidence-based education model with high-risk women in the state, the Dobbs grant funds will be incredibly helpful in serving Georgia’s most vulnerable populations.

“This initiative was guided by our recent report, Evaluation of Current Prenatal Education Availability and Receptivity to Online Education in the State of Georgia,” says Elise Blasingame, Executive Director of Healthy Mothers, Healthy Babies Coalition of Georgia. “The study shed light on some of the existing gaps in prenatal education content and reach. With support from Dobbs Foundation, we plan to use Pickles & Ice Cream to help address those gaps.”
