Perinatal Mental Health

Georgia Perinatal Mental Health Taskforce

Healthy Mothers, Healthy Babies Coalition of Georgia, and Postpartum Support International Georgia Chapter have partnered to launch the Georgia Perinatal Mental Health Taskforce! We hope to bring together a diverse group of advocates to identify ways to improve perinatal mental health well-being for Georgia families. The task force aims to provide programmatic and policy solutions for the perinatal mental health crisis in our state.

Perinatal Mental Health Environmental Scan

Our analysis focused on understanding gaps in mental health care access for pregnant and postpartum individuals in the Albany, Atlanta, and Columbus perinatal regions. We also aimed to enhance awareness of current screening, medication, and education practices during the perinatal period.

The scan encompassed surveys and interviews with maternal mental health providers, as well as focus groups with pregnant and postpartum individuals. Additionally, we conducted a quantitative review of mental health resources. The results from this scan are expected to guide programmatic and policy solutions.

The HMHBGA team hosted a public research debriefing on the results of the environmental scan on February 1st, 2024. We welcome you to view the recording and hear directly from our team about the findings.
